For groups seeking a unique creative immersion or off-site, our Public Voice Retreat Programs guide participants through brainstorms, discussions, and writing exercises designed to help identify the genres, channels, forms, and forums that make sense for their ideas. Among genres explored: personal essays, blogs, books, TEDx, live lit, and more. Participants leave with resources, a writing community, and a concrete action plan for next steps. Half-day and full-day options are available.
For groups wishing to hold their retreats in the Chicago area and stay overnight, special rates and retreat-like meeting spaces are available at the gorgeously restored Stone Porch by the Lake or Stone Terrace B&B, located on Lake Michigan’s shore.
FOR INDIVIDUALS – A note from Deborah, your guide
Here’s how my one-on-one retreat program works: A 90-minute pre-retreat coaching call jumpstarts our creative partnership. During this call, we’ll design our working alliance and decide together on the number and timing of the retreats. You’ll let me know how you wish to be coached and I’ll tell you more about the tools and structures I bring to our work. In addition, you’ll educate me about who you are, what I’m to understand about your vision, your current project, and what you wish for more generally in the realm of public voice. Working from an existing template, we’ll then co-create the agenda for the first retreat.
During that retreat, I’ll lead you through a series of exercises, entirely customized based on our pre-conversations, to literally launch you on your project. Overnight and during the morning of your next day, you’re given time for writing (primed by assignments we have co-created). We’ll then review what you create, discuss the project further, and brainstorm. The day ends in a clear plan for next steps.
The two different types of retreats I offer are:
CREATIVE LAUNCH – an individually customized experience designed to jumpstart your thinking, help you commit to a process for execution, and move you from idea to reality.
DEEP DIVE – designed to accelerate your ongoing project, break through creative blocks, and help you sustain your commitment to carrying it through.
